Mahalunge MIDC Police Station Complex

During our work on Project Unnati, we engaged with women residing in the Chakan Industrial Area. Through our interactions, we discovered a growing concern about personal safety and road safety in the region. Many women expressed that they did not feel safe, and several issues related to public safety were identified.

Challenges Identified

We took these concerns to both corporate entities and the police department. However, the local police were struggling with severe limitations:

  • Mahalunge MIDC Police Station is responsible for 48 villages but has only 112 police personnel, including one senior officer.
  • The police station lacked proper infrastructure, including:
  • No sufficient space for officers.
  • No lock-up facility.
  • No space for storing recovered assets.

The Initiative

Recognizing the urgent need for better policing infrastructure, Vaghmi Foundation took the initiative to bridge the gap between the police department and corporate stakeholders. We proposed the construction of a Police Station Complex in Mahalunge MIDC, involving the Police Department and Chakan Industries.

To take this forward, we:

  • Organized a corporate meeting on 30th April 2024 to bring all stakeholders together.
  • Secured the necessary Government Resolution (GR) for the project.
  • Groundbreaking Ceremony
  • Marking a historic moment, the foundation stone for the Mahalunge MIDC Police Station Complex will be laid by:
  • Hon’ble Chief Minister Mr. Devendra Fadnavis
  • Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Ajit Pawar
  • on 6th February 2025.

A First in India

This is the first-ever initiative in India where multiple companies have come together under their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) commitments to collaboratively build a police station complex—a pioneering step in public-private partnership for safety and security.

Through Project Mahalunge MIDC Police Station Complex, Vaghmi Foundation is committed to ensuring a safer, more secure industrial area by strengthening the law enforcement infrastructure and fostering a sustainable partnership between industries and the police.

Ensuring Transparency & Accountability

To maintain complete transparency in the execution of the Mahalunge MIDC Police Station Complex Project, we have established an Executive Committee comprising key stakeholders from the police, corporate sector, and community organizations.

Executive Committee Members:

1. DCP Zone 3
2. Senior Police Inspector, Mahalunge MIDC Police Station
3. Mr. Sarang Joshi – Mercedes Benz
4. Mr. Vijay Nair – Mahindra & Mahindra
5. Mr. Yogesh Wake – Group Surya
6. Mr. Motilal Sankla – Chakan Industries Association (CIA)
7. Ms. Samaiirah – Vaghmi Foundation
Financial Transparency: Escrow Account

To ensure clear and accountable financial management, an escrow account has been opened to manage all transactions separately. This step guarantees that funds received under CSR contributions are used exclusively for the development of the Police Station Complex.

This initiative sets a benchmark for CSR-driven public infrastructure projects in India, ensuring collaboration, transparency, and accountability at every stage.
